American Sign Language Proficiency Interview (ASLPI)

The ASLPI is an assessment administered by Gallaudet University to measure the functional ability of adults to communicate using American Sign Language (ASL). School districts are encouraged to assess employees who work with students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing. If appropriate, the ASLPI can be used to assess students who are 16 years or older.

Michigan district employees and students should register for the ASLPI through MDE-LIO.
