Educational interpreters must be certified to work in Michigan public schools. The Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA), administered through MDE-LIO, can be used as a qualification to help become certified. The EIPA is a required qualification to interpret in elementary settings, and can also be used as a qualification to interpret in secondary settings.
