American Sign Language Class for DHH Professionals - Online

This eight-session American Sign Language (ASL) class is for Deaf/Hard of Hearing (DHH) professionals with intermediate ASL skills. The class will focus on several technical aspects of ASL, including:

  • Structure
  • Grammar
  • Classifiers
  • Multiple meanings
  • Technical signs

This class will be conducted online. Participants must have reliable internet access and a computer with a camera. Participants will be provided with instructions beforehand on how to access the class; a test call will be required prior to the first day of the class.


Nicole Gaines holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and Secondary Education from Madonna University. For the past three years, she has taught ASL as an adjunct professor in Lansing Community College’s interpreter training program. She was an ASL specialist for Bloomfield’s DHH program, teaching ASL and Deaf Culture/Literature to DHH students from infants to 12th grade. She also works for Deaf Community Advocacy Network (Deaf C.A.N.) as a case manager working with Deaf adults in the community.
