The Connect 12 / MATT Connect combines a high-performance digital magnifier with the versatility of an Android tablet. In this hands-on workshop, participants will use features of the devices to view and capture printed materials. They will utilize the distance camera to make observations and annotate on worksheets using writing, typing, and highlighting functions. Participants will also turn on magnification features of Android and explore apps that can be downloaded from the Google Play Store.


  • Review and use Connect 12 / MATT Connect gestures
  • View printed textbook pages/worksheets in live mode
  • Operate the camera
  • Capture, read, and organize four printed pages of text
  • Turn on magnification gestures available in Android
  • Explore Google Play Store applications
  • Use the annotation tools to write, type, and highlight on aworksheet that has been captured with Connect 12 / MATT Connect


Jim Sullivan has a Masters of Education in Rehabilitation Counseling from Kent State University and more than 15 years of experience working with assistive technology for persons who are blind and visually impaired.
