A great foundation is necessary for becoming a successful adult. Through this hands-on interactive workshop, participants will be equipped to readily apply skills, techniques, and knowledge to ensure our wee ones are successful now and in the future.

  • Identify the four cornerstones to building a strong early O&M program.
  • Explain the importance of using routines for encouraging and reinforcing purposeful movement.
  • Identify two methods of helping parents become more involved in their child’s growth and development with regard to O&M.

Marjie Wood (M.Ed., COMS, TVI) has taught O&M to children and adults for more than 40 years. In the past 25 years, her attention has turned toward children ages birth to 3, starting in a center-based program as a teacher of students with visual impairments (TVI) and certified orientation and mobility specialist (COMS), and continuing as an itinerant COMS until 2016. For the past eight years, Marjie has traveled around the U.S. and Canada giving workshops and presentations to parents and colleagues on various O&M topics. She is passionate about helping parents and service providers better understand the importance of early O&M and the skills and concepts needed for optimal service delivery outcomes.
