Through a partnership with the CVI Book Nook and the Lions of Michigan Foundation, MDE-LIO offers CVI on the Fly Book Bags for young children who have cortical/cerebral visual impairment (CVI) and are Blind/Visually Impaired (BVI). Book bags may be ordered by Michigan residents who have children or work with children who have CVI.
Each kit contains:
- Four CVI-adapted print books (Coloring Colors, 1-2-3, 5 Yellow Duckies, Sunny Goes Woof!)
- One copy of the CVI on the Fly QuickStart Guide for Families
- One set of CVI-adapted animal flashcards
- One set of CVI-adapted shapes flashcards
- A set of tactile objects to correspond with the books (Box of Crayons, Colored Spoons, Yellow Duckie, Spotted Dog, Tactile Numbers 1-5)
- A bright red “CVI on the Fly” tote bag
Order a Book Bag
Book bags are limited and are available on a first come, first served basis. Teacher consultants for the visually impaired may order one bag each. Parents/guardians may also order one bag each. To request a book bag, complete the CVI Book Bag Form [PDF] and submit it to [email protected].

In addition to CVI on the Fly Book Bags, MDE-LIO’s Budding Seedlings program is also available for families and teachers of young children who are BVI. This program is offered in collaboration with Seedlings Braille Books for Children.
