1. Students must complete an approved Plan of Study with Western Michigan University (WMU) for admission to the program.
    • The WMU program advisor will work with students to determine which classes, taken at which member universities, will work best for that student.
  2. Register for classes, attend classes, complete classes:
    • Consortium students are expected to maintain a 3.0 GPA overall.
    • If a course needs to be repeated due to a non-passing grade, the student is responsible for payment of retaking the class.
  3. Students can only register for the practicum after WMU receives and approves the application for the practicum:
    • WMU will serve as an additional level of oversight if practicum is completed at another member university.
    • Consortium students will register for a practicum experience at the member university of their choice and abide by the requirements of that university.
  4. Students must take and pass the Special Education: Teaching Students With Visual Impairments Praxis Test (5282) prior to applying for their endorsement.
  5. Students must apply for their endorsement through the Michigan Online Educator Certification System (MOECS).
  6. Approved Plan of Study, official transcripts, and the Application for State of Michigan Department of Education Visual Impairment Consortium for Teacher Preparation (VICTP) Endorsement are submitted to the Michigan Department of Education Office of Special Education for a final audit.
