$75 for educational interpreters
$37.50 for interpreter training program students in Michigan
Description
This training will focus on several sections of the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) that can be improved in a relatively short amount of time to see an increase in the overall score:
- Domain 1: A, Stress or emphasis for important words or phrases
- Domain 1: E, Sentence types and clausal boundaries indicated
- Domain 2: E, F, G, Speech production, sentence and clausal boundaries indicated, and sentence types
- Domain 3: E, F, H, Key vocabulary represented, production of fingerspelling, and appropriate use of fingerspelling
Throughout this training, we will delve into the proper production and representation required for the domains above and learn how to integrate them into the work to yield a higher EIPA score. The cornerstone of this training is modeling for participants, as interpreters often struggle to synthesize the feedback they receive on the EIPA with tangible examples of specific skills.
This workshop will be presented in American Sign Language.
Audience
This workshop is for educational interpreters who are serving students in Michigan. Interpreter training program (ITP) students are also welcome to attend.
Presenter
Jonathan Silva is a heritage American Sign Language (ASL) user who has been interpreting professionally for nearly 18 years. Silva holds a 4.9 on the EIPA (ASL; Secondary 2024) and is nationally certified with the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf. Silva is well known within the professional interpreting community as a mentor and strong supporter of incoming interpreters. A passion of Silva's is supporting interpreters to achieving their desired scores and certifications, but he is even more passionate about ensuring the best quality work possible for Deaf consumers. Workshops with Silva are fun and engaging and tend to be a space where you can let your guard down and grow together with everyone else. Silva learns as much from those who attend his trainings as they learn from him.
