Description
Do you know how to gain access to the largest library of textbooks, bestsellers, children's books, career resources, and more for free? Can your student read on almost any device, including smartphones, tablets, Chromebooks, computers, and other assistive technology devices? Whether you are new to Bookshare or are a seasoned expert, you will learn lots of new tips from the Bookshare Program Manager Lara Rondberg and Detroit Bookshare Outreach Coordinator Nancy Brown, a former teacher for the visually impaired (TVI) and assistive technology professional.
Learn how to:
- set up an account for students
- remotely assign books, or entire reading lists, to individuals or groups of students
- help students individualize their reading experience by accessing books based on their learning style
- to connect the Assistive Technology Guidelines to Bookshare
About Talk Tech Tuesdays
In this free webinar series, learn skills and techniques for teaching assistive technology (AT) to students who are Blind or Visually Impaired (BVI). Each session will be held the last Tuesday of every month through May 2024. These webinars are open to anyone who would like to brush up on their AT skills, learn about recent AT updates, obtain resources, and more!
Audience
Professionals, parents, college students studying BVI professions, and high school students in grades 10-12 are welcome to attend.
Required Technology
This event will be conducted online via Zoom; participants do not need to have Zoom, but they must have internet access and a computer with a camera.
Online Event Expectations
Participants are expected to be respectful and courteous to others during this event. MDE-LIO reserves the right to mute, turn off video, and/or remove participants who do not adhere to this expectation.
Accommodations
It is important for participants to request accessibility accommodations at least three weeks prior to the event. Outside agencies MDE-LIO contracts with to provide accommodations cannot guarantee services if requests are made in less than three weeks.
