The Michigan Department of Education - Low Incidence Outreach (MDE-LIO) is rebranding with a new name for each of our audiences! The purpose of this is to help the field clearly identify who we are and who we serve.

Our new names are:

  • Michigan Department of Education Resource for Blind/Low Vision (MDE RBLV)
  • Michigan Department of Education Resource for Deaf/Hard of Hearing (MDE RDHH)

As part of the process, we have launched a new MDE RDHH Facebook page for our deaf/hard of hearing audience and are in the process of changing our current MDE-LIO page to MDE RBLV, featuring blind/low vision topics.

Additionally, we are changing our use of “blind or visually impaired” to “blind or low vision.” This reflects a shift away from outdated language toward more inclusive language, much like updating the term “hearing impaired” to “deaf or hard of hearing.”
