Distance learning has become a necessity due to COVID-19, and MDE-LIO is pleased to assist with American Printing House for the Blind (APH) books and products. Donning face masks and rubber gloves, our Instructional Materials Center (IMC) staff have begun going into the office on a rotation schedule to supply educational materials while maintaining a safe social distance.
Ordering APH Materials
To order APH books and materials for students, teachers may submit a request via the Request APH Products page or the Request a Book page. At this time, MDE-LIO staff is shipping APH products that are needed for the current school year and are not yet taking orders for next year.
If the requester indicates that materials should be sent to a parent’s address, IMC staff will send the requester a Distance Learning Loan Agreement to be completed before materials are shipped. APH books and materials that are used for distance learning will have a return due date of September 1, 2020.
MDE-LIO can purchase books and products from APH for students who are registered on the APH census and are therefore eligible to receive Federal Quota Program funds. Students who were reported on last year’s APH census (2019) are currently eligible for Federal Quota Funds.
If a student is not eligible, books and products may be borrowed from MDE-LIO’s materials center for use with the student, depending on inventory and specific criteria being met. Teachers are encouraged to submit requests.
June 2020 Update: Teachers may now ship materials back to MDE-LIO or set up an appointment to return borrowed materials from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Learn more: MDE-LIO Now Accepting Returns
