MDE-LIO would like to welcome Amy Shepherd as a new Parent Liaison. She will work part-time with families and MDE-LIO consultants to create more collaborative opportunities to help support students who are Blind/Visually Impaired.

Amy received her bachelor’s degree in human development and social policy from Northwestern University with a concentration in psychology and specialization in child development. She also received a master’s degree in elementary education.

For six years, Amy served as president of Michigan Parents of Children with Visual Impairments (MPVI). She has also served on many committees and organizations, and most recently was a substitute teacher at Washtenaw Intermediate School District (ISD). Originally from Kalamazoo, Amy and her husband now live in Ann Arbor with their two sons.

Amy looks forward to working with families at MDE-LIO. Her goal is to continue helping families connect with each other and access educational resources throughout the state.
