MDE-LIO wants to promote students’ interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields! To do this, we are partnering with Deaf Kids Code, Amazon, the Michigan Department of Civil Rights Division on Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing (DODDBHH), and the Detroit Public Schools’ Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) Program to initiate a pilot program for students who are DHH.
In November, students will take part in an all-day field trip to Amazon’s headquarters in Detroit. There, Amazon employees whose work involves cloud technology and computer programming will demonstrate the work that goes into STEM. After the trip, the students will learn how to create coding programs by taking online modules through the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Educate program, which is the company's global initiative to provide students with comprehensive resources for building skills in cloud technology.
