Description

The listening and spoken language (LSL) approach is a communication option for infants, toddlers, and young children who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing and who have appropriate auditory access to speech. Professionals and families work together implementing specific LSL strategies and practices to facilitate the acquisition and development of language. This training will give attendees the background, instruction, modeling, and practice necessary to implement LSL strategies with fidelity.

Learner Objectives

  1. Understand the model of auditory development
  2. Identify at least ten strategies used in development of listening and spoken language skills
  3. Roleplay and practice the use and application of selected LSL strategies

Required Learning

Attendees will be required to complete 30 minutes of material prior to attending this training. This material (video and print) will be sent to participants two weeks prior to the training date.

About the Presenter

Ashley S. Garber (M.S., CCC-SLP, Listening and Spoken Language Specialist, Certified Auditory-Verbal Therapist) owns LSL Learning Partners, LLC, a private practice focusing specifically on LSL mentoring, organizational consulting, and content development with an eye toward practical applications of LSL concepts. As a speaker and mentor, including in her former role as educational consultant for Cochlear Americas’ HOPE Program and as a current collaborator with HearingFirst.org, she has had the opportunity to lead and learn from professionals nationally and internationally.
